Emma Stone Is Headed To Broadway!
Emma Stone—actress, philanthropic guru and lip syncher extraordinaire—may be extending her acting portfolio come fall: according to The New York Times, Stone is in talks to make her Broadway debut in the Roundabout Theater Company’s revival of Cabaret. The 25-year-old actress would star as Sally Bowles, replacing Michelle Williams when she exits the show on November 9.
In fact, it had been Stone, not Williams, who had been assigned to the role in the first place—but she was forced to drop out due to scheduling difficulties, and Williams promptly filled her space. Stone would star in the critically acclaimed production opposite another film actor, Alan Cumming, who is set to play the show’s eccentric MC through its closing on January 4.
Ever since we (and 27 million others) watched as Stone bested Jimmy Fallon in an impassioned lip sync battle in April, we’ve known the actress has serious stage presence. Her actual pipes aren’t half bad, either. Before her breakout role in Superbad, Stone entered a short-lived reality competition on VH1, In Search of the Partridge Family, in which she vied for the role of Laurie Partridge. To wit, here’s a video of Stone belting Meredith Brooks' “Bitch” on that stage:
By contest, here’s Williams singing in the movie The Baxter:
