How To Wear Christmas Colors In The Fall
Second only, perhaps, to cherry red mixed with Kermit green, a deep forest hue paired with maroon is one of the most Christmas-y combinations around. It's a motif trimmed on Douglas fir wreaths and worked into advent calenders; people wear it to caroling parties. Making the look work outside December is tough.
So how then does the outfit above manage to fit in outside the holiday circuit? The secret is balancing the Santa Claus colors with plenty of black elements (rather than silver and white, which make it feel festive and wintry), and just a few streamlined accessories (no jingle bells or any other twee touches!). You might have to wait a little bit longer to wear this ensemble—after all, it's still shorts and tank top season—but I promise it won't take four months!
