Lightweight Pant Tailoring Tips

Lucky How-To

Cut out the pockets:

The sight of linings through light-colored trousers adds extra bulk to your thighs and can make even a really nice pair of pants look cheap. So deal with both issues at once by snipping out the lining and sewing shut the pocket opening.

Buy linen pants one size too small:

Like a pair of jeans, linen pants will stretch. Buy them snug around the rear—you should be able to sit down in them, but they should pull slightly. Wear them around the house until they relax into their final shape.

Trim the hems for a beach vibe:

This gets you a breezy, casual look faster than anything—and works perfectly with soft cotton pants. (Why pay to get something hemmed if you don't need to?) A just-above-the-ankles cut is incredibly chic with flats.
