Dear Lucky: What Are Some Practical Outfits for a Mom?

Constant red-carpet readiness does not an alluring woman make, mom or no. Nor does practical have to mean unfun, unfeminine or even unglamorous:

1. Just about any summer dress or skirt-and-T-shirt combination looks cute with a pair of white Supergas. Or any color of the gorgeous, glamorous Bensimon sneakers. Either option says (to me): I am glamorous, but I also don’t care. And/or: Though I am wearing this flirty, body-revealing, beautiful dress/skirt, I am not trying too hard!
A flat thong sandal is a step up in the glamour department; an espadrille is summer-casual Inès de la Fressange perfection. And I’m always reading about the death of the flip-flop. Ha! I say.

2. You know how you go to a party and the super-hot girl is always wearing a maxi dress? I wear a maxi dress and I imagine I am this girl.

3. The skirt of the skirt-and-T-shirt combo should be the more festive element of the two. A festive top is rarely relaxing and carefree, somehow. Or copy the fashion editor I will forever worship for wearing silk slips everywhere, all summer long: sexy and comfortable and eccentric heiress all at once! She wore them with flip-flops, sneakers or bare feet.

4. Jewelry is not so crazily impractical: A diamond stud earring? A little hoop? A sexy gold chain with something tiny and pretty hanging from it? A fantastic watch? Do it!
