How-to (Beauty)
All You (Really) Need Makeup artists reveal the bare-bones necessities that they can't work without—and that every woman needs in her arsenal.
1
1 Pink-Toned Concealer
"Yellow cuts blue tones in the skin," says makeup guru Bobbi Brown. "But undereye circles have a lot of gray—which requires pink to counteract. Almost everyone could use a little bit, so I don't go anywhere without it."
2
2 Super-Bright Blush
A vivid color looks like it's going to scream "makeup!" much too loudly, but, Brown says: "Just a little on your cheeks is prettier than all the neutral blushes in the world."
3
3 Lip-Colored Liner
"Don't underestimate the power of one of these," says makeup artist Dia Foley, creative director of Red Earth Cosmetics. "It's a great stand-in for matte lipstick and lasts so much longer. Go for a shade darker than your natural lipcolor, throw some gloss over it, and you're good for the whole night."
4
4 Gel Bronzer
"I cannot be without it," Brown insists. "Use it just over moisturizer and you'll barely need any other coverage. I love it when I'm tired because it instantly wakes up my skin."
5
5 Illuminating Powder
"I use these to lift dark shadows," says beauty.com makeup artist Tina Turnbow. "Luminescent creams can be a bit obvious, but sheer powders are like highlighting for beginners. I use a touch around the nostrils, under the bottom lip, on the brow bone, and especially in the inner corner of the eye. A tiny dose brightens your whole face."
