How-to (Fit)

Jackets and Miniskirts Pairing two items of shrunken proportions may seem to fly in the face of recent trends, but the crisp, swingy shapes (and leg-lengthening black tights) make this an easy-to-wear combination with mod-inspired cool.

Putting it together:

  • Jackets should just graze the hips, no shorter. Choose simple styles with three-quarter-length sleeves and a one- or two-button closure, so they're fitted through the shoulders and roomy in the torso.
  • Slightly flared, fingertip-length skirts with flat fronts are the most flattering. Thicker-blend woven fabrics will give them the right cool-weather heft.
  • A knit top layered underneath, untucked and peeking out about two or three inches past the jacket, will add definition. Soft neutrals like oatmeal and heather gray balance the strong hues of the rest of the outfit.
