Revving up the excitement in electric vehicles, Polestar has unveiled its sleek and futuristic Polestar 4 electric SUV coupe.

But that’s not the only ground-breaking news – this stylish EV is set to feature Mobileye’s cutting-edge Chauffeur eyes-off, hands-off autonomous driving technology.

Strap in as we take you on a joyride through the details and implications of this technological leap!

What’s the Buzz About Polestar 4?

First, let’s look at the star of the show – the Polestar 4 electric SUV coupe

Striking the perfect balance between the elegance of a coupe and the practicality of a modern SUV, the Polestar 4 is a marvel in design and engineering.

Positioned between the Polestar 2 and Polestar 3 in size and price, it promises to deliver an unparalleled driving experience.

Eyes-Off, Hands-Off Autonomy

The Polestar 4 is all set to make history by becoming the first production car to feature Mobileye’s Chauffeur eyes-off, hands-off autonomous driving technology.

But here’s the twist – the Chauffeur system won’t be available right from the get-go.

Instead, the Polestar 4 will initially be equipped with Mobileye’s SuperVision-based Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). It sets the foundation for the full-fledged Chauffeur autonomy that will follow later.

SuperVision and Chauffeur

The SuperVision and Chauffeur systems rely on Mobileye’s cutting-edge EyeQ systems-on-chip, a 360-degree surround camera system, and the REM-powered Mobileye Roadbook map.

The SuperVision system boasts features like autonomous lane changing, highway and traffic jam assist, and adaptive cruise control. Chauffeur takes it up a notch by integrating the latest EyeQ6 system-on-chip and advanced radar and lidar sensors.

These additional sensors create the crucial sensing layer required for eyes-off autonomous driving.

The Drive of the Future

The highlight of the Chauffeur system is its promise to deliver point-to-point autonomous driving on highways, coupled with eyes-on automated driving in other environments.

Whether cruising down a highway or navigating through urban streets, the Chauffeur-equipped Polestar 4 has you covered.

The technology enhances your driving experience, allowing you to sit back, relax, and let the car do the work when you choose to.

Polestar’s Vision

Thomas Ingenlath, the CEO of Polestar, is enthusiastic about this ground-breaking collaboration.

He notes, “Collaborating with Mobileye can significantly push innovation in our Polestar 4 electric performance SUV coupé.

We know that driving yourself is not always fun and exciting – this technology means our customers could enable autonomous driving when they want, making all future journeys enjoyable.”

The Power Under the Hood

The Polestar 4 isn’t just about autonomy – it packs a punch under the hood, too.

Available with both single- and dual-motor powertrains, the long-range, dual-motor version churns out an impressive 544 horsepower and 506 pound-feet of torque.

This powerhouse can sprint from 0 to 62 miles per hour in 3.8 seconds, setting Polestar’s fastest production car.

On the other hand, the long-range, single-motor RWD variant delivers 272 horsepower and 253 lb-ft of torque.

With a preliminary range target of over 300 miles based on the US EPA’s test procedure, this variant ensures you’ll have plenty of range to explore without frequent stops.

Launch and Availability

Are you excited to get behind the wheel of the Polestar 4? The electric crossover coupe hit the roads of China on its launch day and is set to make its global debut in 2024.

Even if Chauffeur autonomous technology won’t be included in the initial release, the wait will be worthwhile.

The decision by Polestar to gradually implement this technology demonstrates their dedication to improving the driving experience while guaranteeing dependability and safety.
