Since that fateful day--March 10, 2009--when Karl Lagerfeld sent a green-glazed group of girls down Chanel's Fall 2009 runway at the Grand Palais in Paris, I became obsessed with acquiring the covetable color on their fingertips:
300 bottles were finally released on September 10 and sold out almost immediately. Over the intervening six months, however, I had embarked on a mad mission to find the most convincing copies. I tried every green lacquer on the market--in shades ranging from apple to olive to lime--and finally filtered out the finest jades to be found:
